Taking The Next Step In Renewable Development
There is a global change in the way renewable generation is being funded, with recognition that renewables are becoming less dependent on subsidies and grants to compete with fossil fuels. Abercromby Power is embracing this opportunity by:
- Developing sites with the opportunity to sell energy directly to large industrial customers. Over 50% of customers' electricity bill is taken up with intermediate charges between the customer and the generator such as transmission charges, market charges, utility profit etc. By selling directly to the customer it is possible to secure a price high enough to finance the project, whilst reducing the customer's electricity bill.
- Developing sites with multiple technologies. Renewable generation is typically intermittent in nature and mostly displaces fuel consumption rather than providing generation capacity. By optimising the mix of generation technologies on a site, it is possible to present a dispatchable form of generation to the market, benefiting from both generation capacity as well as displaced fuel.
- Identifying and initiating development in countries which through resource level and price will offer the first opportunities to build renewable projects that compete directly with fossil fuel generation.
- Developing large sites ready for construction once increasing energy prices and reducing technology cost enable the site to be taken to financial close.
